Mark Collins

White Crane Chen style

Principle instructor Mark Collins has over 40 years experience in internal and external martial arts. He started training in Karate in 1979, having been inspired several years earlier by both Bruce Lee films and David Carradine's "Kung Fu" TV series. He later went on to train passionately in other external martial arts, Tae Kwon Do and then Yun Jung Do, teaching the latter for 5 years (also taking classes in Aikido, Ju-Jitsu and Kung Fu along the way).

Mark first learned some Tai Chi at an Adult Education class, in the mid eighties for a few months, but it didn't really appeal to him, and so he continued with his Tae Kwon Do.

Then after discovering Mark Leonard's class in 2001 in Bristol, he knew that this time it was different and was the start of a lifelong passion of Tai Chi, Chi Kung and other internal arts.

By 2001, Mark had been suffering from a lot of back pain/stiffness and "pulling" a lot of muscles (e.g. back, shoulder, hamstrings) while training in the external arts.

Very soon after starting Tai Chi he found that he was able to dispense with the services of the Chiropractor (which was not consistently helping at the time) and gradually sense the stiffness and tension starting to drain away from his body. He also noticed his energy increased and his sense of wellbeing, (which had been pretty good while training in the external arts) was now reaching new boundaries.

Mark is a registered instructor with the Tai Chi Union for Great Britain and still attends regular courses/workshops with Grandmaster Chen Xioawang, Chen Ying Jun, Karel Koskuba and Master Wing Cheung, as well as some private lessons with Mark Leonard.
